Some love stories are written in the stars; ours began at a simple park gate by the swings.
We were just teenagers when fate (and Khalid’s late cousin, Hilary Green) decided our paths should cross. What started as an innocent introduction on a spring evening turned into countless memories of maladroit teen love that only grew deeper with time.
When college took us in different directions, we saw each other during breaks and summers. We were inseparable when together—dreaming big, making plans, and believing love could conquer anything. But life, as it often does, had its own plans. Khalid headed south to Grambling State University to major in criminal justice and found his calling in youth services, while Sasha stayed in Boston, pursuing her passion for nursing at Simmons College. Distance tested us, but we held on, writing messages late into the night, visiting when we could, and always carrying each other in our hearts.
After graduation, our lives took separate turns. Khalid stayed in Louisiana, dedicating himself to uplifting young lives, while Sasha built a promising career in Boston. Though we were living different realities, our story wasn’t finished yet.
It was life’s unexpected moments that brought us back together—this time, through caring for Khalid’s late uncle and godfather, Curley Green. In the quiet moments of grief and support, we rediscovered something we had never truly lost. As friends, we learned each other all over again—not as the kids who met in a park, but as two people who had grown, changed, and yet, still fit together in the most beautiful way.
Slowly, friendship evolved back into the love we always knew was ours. A love that had matured, deepened and stood the test of time. And now, here we are—ready to step into forever, side by side.
